It Was Written Review… Top 5 Dead Or Alive

November 25, 2015

Over the summer DJ Envy of New York's Power 105 had the streets buzzing with the Friday Morning Massacre with Jadakiss. Hip- Hop Heads were waiting with bated breath for Jada to bless the street with a new LP. Finally the wait is over and while it it still to be determined if Jada is the Top 5 DOE with his latest release he is working his way into the conversation.

Top 5 Dead or Alive has features from Diddy, Future, Akon, Swizz Beatz, Lil' Wayne, Styles P, Ne-Yo, Nipsey Hussle, Wiz Khalifa, Jeezy, Exodus, Young Buck, Sheek Louch, Nas, and Chayse. Jada's concept behind the LP is meant to tell the listener why he belongs in the top 5 DOE.  There are a few skits that will put you in the mind frame of an old school Bad Boy CD especially the "Ahaa Interview". Here is a track by track break down:

First 48 Intro --- Jada instantly takes you through the journey of his word play with an old school beat behind the track

You Don't Eat ft. Diddy --- "If you don't hustle you don't eat" Diddy says repeatedly in the background at the beginning of this track. Hustlers will listen to this track as motivation to go harder.  Jada reminds us "It all about your stamina not who wins the race"

You Can See ft. Future - High energy track It didn't need Future singing on the hook

Y.O. ft. Akon - tells a story of a young youth growing up in the streets without guidance. Akon adds to this track with his gritty hook

Jason ft. Swizz Beats - Jada reminds us that he is really from the streets and can always go back there comfortably

Kill ft. Lil Wayne - Not Jada's best offering however not bad either. Horns blasting in the background it will make your head nod and really listen to Wayne's verse

Man In the Mirror - Jadakiss is talking to himself reflecting on why he is the top 5 in the game. The drums on this beat are extremely sick. "Before you sit down at the table make sure you know who you are eatin' with" "I only fear two beings one I can talk to the other I can see him"

Synergy - great chemistry between Styles P and Kiss they will be mentioned as one of the great duo's in hip-hop

Aint Nothin New ft. Ne-Yo & Nipsey Hussle - addresses hate and jealously found in the hood over a smooth beat and hook. Jada gives Nipsey the opportunity to shine on this track. While adding a punch line to remind us "Yeah, end of discussion. I vocally destroy any production"

So High ft. Wiz Khalifa - Kiss talks about his mind set while under the influence trippy beat Wiz brings his usual high flow to the track. Kiss also acknowledges that rappers don’t get their high from just weed anymore.

Critical ft. Jeezy- a straight banger high energy track that will make you feel invincible Jada and Jeezy make magic together on this track.

Cutlass- bonafide banger Kiss exudes nothing but confidence on this track great production on the beat.

Realest in the Game ft. Young Buck and Sheek Louch - Street Anthem my favorite track high energy all three let us know why they are the realist in the game.

Rain ft. Nas - reflective track Jada, Nas and Styles make this rain turn into fire " The cash comes in and then the love stops”

One More Mile to Go ft. Chayse - another reflective track with the piano in the background Jada understand why he may not be listed in the 5 top but it is doing his best to earn his spot.

Overall, Jada does not disappoint with this new release while there are a couple of tracks and skits that could have been left off however, the overall feeling is still dope. Kiss is a wordsmith would will earn the respect of his fans everywhere and change the conversation to at least include him in the top 10. I give this release 3.5 crowns out of 5 crowns
